Love School is an old-school song of mine written about a year ago. I heard it in my head while standing in line at the airport heading to Spain. Recorded it on the voice recorder and worked it through for a couple of months. Think Smokey Robinson and The Stylistics with Motown backup singers singing about how Love calls the shots, not us.
Once again David has taken an acoustic performance and turned it into something extraordinary.
I am SO honored to be working with this man. He gets vocals out of me that I've only ever dreamed of singing. I had to tell him today how grateful I am to him for making me a better singer. A few years back, I watched Seal receive a Grammy and he thanked his producer for making him sound so good. I remember thinking, that's odd. Why would you thank someone else for your own voice? But now I get it.
Just a little shameless starstruck moment: David was cleaning out some files last night and I'm listening to various songs, etc. Of course they're all amazing. So after one featuring a female lead singer with a male rapper I say, who is that? He says, "Oh, that's Kanye West rapping. I got called to write a hook for this song." So I'm all like, "Oh. Cool. (Yawn.)" LOL.
