I have been struggling with a decision. The KS Backers chose Out of Tune as the single, but the song David wrote, Me Without You, really should have been in the top 3. My ego and my pocketbook made me leave it out, I'm embarrassed to say. Here's how the converstion went in my head:
Pocketbook: What if this record is a huge success and the first single is 100% David's? You'll get no royalties.
Ego: Yeah! And HE'LL get all the credit.
Together: Leave that song out of the top 3.
Which is what I did. But it didn't sit right with me, so I decided to take the winner from the first contest (Out Of Tune) and send it out to them again up against Me Without You. I didn't share the honest story with them, however. I didn't want to influence their gut reactions to the 2 songs. So I wrote this:
Well, it was a very strong majority (91%) who chose "Out of Tune" as the best song for a single out of the 3 songs I sent. What I didn't tell you was that I wanted to pit your #1 choice against another very strong song called "Me Without You". So now that I know which song you all felt was the strongest, I need to know how you think it stacks up against this one. The winner of this contest will be the song I use for the first video to be shot in April.
Your feedback on the last set of songs was fantastic. Most of you were very specific and I LOVED that. So please keep it coming. Remember, commercial appeal! Which one has more?
As always, thank you so much.
I feel better, and I believe whatever song is meant to be the single will come out of this. Even if David's song is chosen, getting my name out there is the most important thing right now. This single has to be the vehicle for that whether I wrote it or not.
